something i thought about in a seminar today

Aesthetics:
something that words and language can not really do justice to.
aesthetics is visual,i wouldn't say its beautiful or ugly- because- how can one opinion determine what beauty is. i might love how something looks while you might hate it.
as a maker and artist, aesthetics, like what i want to do,is create something that demands an action for the work to become art. something that needs participation to transform to art. i also think one work can create more than one piece of art.
you will see this in my next few post, it will become true when i post the works i've been making in sculpture.

boxing bag

i made a punching bad.got  a coal bag full of mud i found in the ceramics skip. carried that up stairs. warped it in carpet i had left over from semester one. my plan is to wrap another layer on top of the bag, punch and kick the shit out of it and video. both fists will be different colors. both feet. both knees and maybe even my forehead, cuz headbutts arnt cheap :P
i might water my paint down a bit so that it splatters, dont want it to be too think.

i might do this a few times, maybe once with just fists.both black. might be a nice contrast to the colorful one that im gonna make first.

there is an artist i found that does something similar. Ushio Shinohara

here are some of his videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5qT-kQDnSQ i noticed in this video he has sponges warped around his gloves. now i ament fancy enough to have cloves, but sponges might be a good idea.

here are some of his final pieces displayed as he saw fit:

in this

and this, you can see its two works combined

in this once you can see he has cut and rearranged

just think this is a great photo

semester 2.week 3. sculpture.

after brainstorming words to do with the sences for the first day,i setled on one word. IMPACT.
im going to gather my materials today and get started this evening.
the first thing that sprung to mind was splater paintings.i used to make loads of um. whenever i had a spare half hour. black backgrounds espetialy, always thought they looked cooler. not only gona use paint either, pva glue looks sweet too, like a thick cloudy blob. a tooth brush covered in white paint, then flick it,looks likes starts, and depending on how much you concentate the flicks,or how far/close you are,it can look like constolations and starts.

thought this was a prety creative idea too, tape or stencil down something so as it stays clean, while the rest of it becomes all splatery.

nice photo

william klein:atomic bomb sky.1955.

i have been taking pictures of st.johns cathedral for a long time,i plan on making a big series of it photographed form all different places, times and seasons.

i hope to capture a photo like the one above.imidietly striking and mesmerising.

photography:begining of semester 2

with the photography bfief being as simple as can be,create a story three minutes long. containing stills, clips, audio, found images.
at first i thought it was going to be a peice of cake to make a three minute video, turns out that was not the case.
i knew i wanted to make a story, built around st.johns cathedral, ive always loved how you can see it from almost anywhere in the city.
after making  a few rough drafts, adding or removing certain parts.
i decided that sometimes, less can be more, foe example, instead of having 20 photos shown for one second each,i would show 10 photos for 2 seconds each.
this also helped me filter through all the shit pictures that really didnt do me or my photography skills any justice.
here is the video i handed up as a final work:
