*there is a sketch pad to acompany this work(s)*
the reason i chose to layr cardboard is because it relates well to how the olmec statue was made.
from jade, first, just a rough dirty ugly stone, but once sculpted carved and polished,it becomes a thing of beauty. i wanted to display somehow, and i thought that the rough outside of te rectangle could mirror the roughness of the stone before the cleaning. ansd the clean cut line on the inside could mirror the polished fineshed statue.
i also like the idea of taking away from the layrs iof cardboard to form shape, simalr to removing from the stone until structure of a jade figure apears.

| getting it cut |
i liked the shape of this, just a cut away from the cardboard layrs. something i may use in a futre project.
i also wanted to work with the age of the piece,as i know it comes from 400-900 bc,yet it still loks alien like, almost futureistc. so using rope laced in green wax i made outlines. each displaying an age, past present anf future.
i would alsom have like to make a print using this.
