gettin the hang of this minimal malarky

I have been drawn to wood since as long as I can remember. so naturally when a chunk of oak came into my position, I wanted to respond to the material.
by getting involved with the process of hand sanding and using bees wax to finish both sides, I created three different colours and three different textures. By blacking out the part of the mirror that would reflect an unnecessary amount, I wanted only the underside of the block to be seen.

figuring out how to have it float

figuring out how best to display

zen jack

painted the Styrofoam black, the white was distracting

I chose to display this under shrubs as the wood and the flattened reflection of the leaves complement each other
